Trinity Baptist Church Grows Faith In Its Members Through Serving Others

By Pamela Sosnowski

For nearly 85 years, Trinity Baptist Church has been spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and making a difference in the world through their many ministries that serve Oklahoma and beyond. The church was founded as a mission in the middle of the Great Depression in 1931, and is still at its original location at 801 N. Peters Avenue.

"The church has always had a significant ministry to college students as it does today," says Senior Pastor Ronnie W. Rogers. "We are also heavily involved in missions, both locally and around the world. We have missionaries serving in some of the most difficult areas of the world."

The church's building as undergone several additions and renovations, but its mission has remained the same: "to equip, engage, and evangelize." "Our mission statement is based upon the mandate of the Great Commission to take the gospel to the world," explains Rogers. "Becoming a Christian is never an end in itself, rather it is to engage others with the love of Christ in both word and deed. We are commanded to speak the truth in love to people with whom we come in contact as well as help people with their needs in the name of Christ as He helped those in need."

There are four requirements to becoming a member of the congregation: new members must receive Jesus Christ be faith, be baptized by immersion in water, be presented to the church as a new member, and attend four seminars that the church calls Discovering Trinity 101. These classes are for anyone that wishes to learn more about Trinity's mission and how it operates. The sessions also introduce members to Christian growth and ministry.

The church offers several programs for children and youth to grow in their faith and use their gifts and abilities to help others. Randy Presley, worship pastor, says Trinity offers an Awana club for children, which he describes as "a Scripture memory and Scripture application to life program." Children also have the opportunity to participate in a preschool and elementary choir, and a vacation bible school and KIDZ Kamp during the summer.

Activities for older kids include participating in plays, ice skating, bonfires, and volunteer opportunities. "We have opportunities for older children to be involved in ministry through our summer sports camp either locally or out of state," says Presley. "There are opportunities for other mission trips as well. We are across the street from an elementary school, and we partner with them on many projects."

Adult ministries serve local businesses such as the Trinity Food Pantry, the Eden Clinic, the North American Mission Board, and several others. Trinity offers ministries for men, women, children, college students, and Chinese members. Worship services are held on Sunday mornings and evenings and Wednesday evenings. Through its many programs for all of its members, Trinity is reaching out to spread its faith and serve others.

"Trinity is composed of ordinary people who seek to grow in our knowledge of Christ so that we can reflect His love and holiness to the world," says Rogers. "This love is demonstrated in that He gave His life so that every person could be loved by God forever."
