Family Law, Family Town

By Elisha Neubauer

When it comes to family law matters- such as divorce, custody battles, or adoption- having the right attorney can make all the difference when it comes to the outcome of your case. Selecting a lawyer that has experience in your required field is vital.

"I have seen many cases where the opposing party selected an attorney who was a friend of the family, or maybe a lawyer who had previously assisted them with a criminal matter," says Linda Pizzini, Principle Attorney at Pizzini Law Firm in Yukon, OK. "Lawyers, like doctors, tend to focus on certain subjects, and a lawyer outside of their branch of knowledge or realm of experience is more likely to make mistakes. You are always going to be better off with an experienced family law attorney when it comes to matters involving divorce, custody, child support, paternity or adoption."

A graduate of the University Of Oklahoma College Of Law, Pizzini has been operating her own practice since 2009. She focuses on family law, more specifically adoptions, divorce, custody, child support, and modifications. In addition, she offers estate planning assistance, explicitly the creation of wills and trusts, Durable Power of Attorney, Advanced Healthcare Directive, and Living Wills.

We asked Pizzini what to look for in a lawyer. Pizzini tells us that it's important for an attorney to be accessible, honest, and straightforward. "If you have trouble getting them to meet with you, answer the phone, or respond to emails before you hire them, then there is a good chance they will be equally difficult to reach when you retain them," she says. You also want someone who understands your issues- and can be brutally honest if necessary, telling you the truth regarding your situation. "Our firm has a very good reputation because we genuinely care about our clients," Pizzini says. "We want to do the best job that we can for them, and answer their questions along the way."

Pizzini loves being a part of the Yukon, OK community. "Yukon is a wonderful small town," she says. "We have great schools and community involvement. It is a very safe town and still has the small town feel to it even though we are growing by leaps and bounds!"
