ButterSweet Cupcakes Has Elevated this Simple Baked Favorite

By Pamela Sosnowski

Cupcake connoisseurs will not be disappointed by the variety of flavors available at ButterSweet Cupcakes on any given day. Sure, the usual standards such as classic white cake with vanilla buttercream is available, but the bakery has also created white chocolate snicker doodle, caramel apple, and even chocolate covered bacon cupcakes. By constantly outdoing themselves with tantalizing flavor combinations, the company is living up to its motto: "Be Different. Be Better. Be Sweet."

"The background behind our motto is the vision we've had from the beginning simplified," explains Tiffany McBride, ButterSweet's Co-Owner.

"'Be different': when we were designing our bakery we didn't splash the walls in your typical pink cupcake store theme like most other places. We would like everyone to walk in and feel comfortable hanging out with us for a bit! 'Be Better' really means freshness and quality is our main concern. We make all of our batter from scratch as well as our frosting. ("By) 'Be Sweet' we want our guests to not only get deliciously sweet treats but also feel welcomed by our sweet Team Cake members!"

McBride grew up learning to bake in her grandmother's kitchen, with a particular fondness for making cakes. Six years ago, she and her husband Matt decided to turn her passion into a full-time career, first making cupcakes out of their kitchen and then two years later moving the operation to their original storefront in Yukon.

The products proved so popular, a second ButterSweet Cupcake location was later opened in Edmond. McBride also owns an artisan custom cake studio in Yukon called Tiffany's Cake Atelier specializing in cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions.

"We also noticed this little gap in the market where no one was specializing in mini cupcakes," says McBride. "We are the only place to my knowledge where you can come in and customize a mini dozen. Other places are preselected and you don't have the option of buying just one!"

Each location produces between 12 and 14 different cupcake flavors every week. For the autumn season, the stores have been experimenting with pumpkin including pumpkin spice, pumpkin spice latte, and pumpkin brûlée. All cupcakes are prepared fresh every morning and McBride prides herself on the fact that nothing is frozen or pre-packaged. Customers rave online about the moistness of the cakes and the natural taste of the frosting that puts grocery store cupcakes to shame.

Customers may email a ButterSweet Cake store ahead of time and order a selection of cupcakes to be picked up in person, another way the company is enforcing its mission of being different, sweet, and better.
